Pars Today – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, referring to Tehran–Washington talks mediated by Pakistan in Islamabad, said that some contradictory positions taken by the U.S. negotiating team and the U.S. president indicate that they are not coordinated internally.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Kazem Jalali told the Russian newspaper Kommersant:
“Several proposals have been exchanged, but the reason they have not come to fruition is the approach of President Trump.”
The Iranian ambassador to Moscow said: “This situation shows that there is only one decision-maker in the United States, and that is President Trump. President Trump, for his part, is only focused on victory and prestige for himself and nothing else.”
The ambassador added: “The problem today with the United States and with President Donald Trump is that he wants to issue instructions. If we were going to accept American directives, then why did we spend nearly five decades resisting and standing firm? We have paid heavy costs for our national independence; naturally, we do not accept diktats.”
