Pars Today – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs stressed that no agreement or understanding with the United States will be signed unless Iran’s national interests are fully safeguarded.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Kazem Gharibabadi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran relies on its own strength, its people, and public support.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is an independent country and makes decisions based on what it determines to be in its national interest. It does not wait for a green light from any other country,” he said.
Gharibabadi added that Iran, its armed forces, and its people delivered a strong response to Israel and the United States during the 40-day conflict, claiming that the response resulted in a major setback for both countries and significant achievements for Iran.
Addressing the latest status of Iran-U.S. negotiations, the senior Iranian diplomat stated:
“So long as the Islamic Republic of Iran does not conclude that any understanding fully addresses its concerns and guarantees Iran’s national interests in their entirety, naturally no agreement will be signed.”
Commenting on remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump that talks between Iran and the United States are progressing well, Gharibabadi said:
“The Americans need this understanding and these negotiations; that is self-evident. But we will only engage in a negotiation process when Iran’s national interests are secured.”
He added:
“At present, we do not feel a need for a negotiation process or an agreement unless that understanding serves the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
