Wall Street Journal: War with Iran exposed weaknesses in US military

Pars Today – The Wall Street Journal has expressed concern over vulnerabilities and weaknesses exposed in the US military during the war with Iran.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, the Wall Street Journal wrote that Iran’s attacks on US military bases across West Asia, including recent attacks in Jordan, highlight the growing threat posed by enemy missiles and drones.

The Wall Street Journal stressed that the attacks have shown that the United States is not adequately prepared to defend its overseas bases, critical infrastructure, and personnel.

The analysis claimed that since the beginning of the war, Iran has carried out more than 2,000 air, missile, and drone attacks across West Asia, damaging at least 20 sites used by the US military in eight countries.

The US newspaper also claimed that Iran has so far inflicted up to $13 billion in losses on the United States in damage to equipment and facilities alone.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Iran has destroyed or damaged a total of more than 42 US military aircraft.

The New York Times also once again highlighted the depletion of US weapons stockpiles, writing that five months of war with Iran have reduced the United States’ critical weapons reserves to their lowest levels ever. More than 1,500 Patriot missiles and thousands of long-range cruise and ballistic missiles have been expended in the conflict, and replenishing these stocks will take at least two years.

The shortage, which existed even before the war due to US support for Ukraine, has now turned into a full-blown crisis, severely weakening America’s ability to respond to threats in Europe and Asia.

Russia and China are closely monitoring this depletion and may seize the opportunity to take strategic action in contested areas such as Taiwan or Eastern Europe.

Such a scenario could reshape the global security order for decades to come.
