Pars Today – The governor of Iran’s Central Bank has responded to remarks by the US Treasury secretary, saying that economic collapse cannot be brought about by political statements.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Abdolnaser Hemmati, governor of the Central Bank of Iran, responded to comments by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who spoke of “money printing” and repeated claims that Iran’s economy was on the verge of collapse.
Hemmati said Sunday marked the end of the two-week deadline for the collapse of Iran’s economy, as promised by Bessent. Instead of discussing the outcome of his two-week prediction, Bessent had turned to talking about money printing in Iran, he added.
“Economic realities must be assessed using measurable indicators, not political positions,” Hemmati said.
According to him, the latest figures released by the Central Bank of Iran show that year-on-year liquidity growth fell from 56.4 percent in June 2026 to 51.6 percent in September 2026, a decline of 4.8 percentage points over three months.
Contrary to US claims, monthly liquidity growth in September stood at just 1.3 percent, its lowest level, he said. Hemmati added that the Central Bank’s intervention in the foreign exchange market had halted and even reversed the upward trend in exchange rates driven by expectations.
The Central Bank governor added that economic pressure was a reality felt by the public, but economic collapse could be proven neither through sanctions and threats nor through political statements.
