  • Iran's serious support for combating illegal small arms trade

Pars Today - The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations announced that Iran fully supports the implementation of the UN's program to combat illegal small arms trade at all levels, including regional and international levels.

At the Fourth Conference to Review Progress Made in the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons, Amir Saeid Iravani expressed gratitude for the efforts of the teams and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs over the past year. He emphasized that Iran is ready to support the chair and his team in achieving a consensus document from this conference.

According to Pars Today, Iravani further stated that Iran, as a victim of foreign-backed terrorism and constantly facing threats from organized crime and drug trafficking related to illegal small arms trade, attaches great importance to this program.

According to the Permanent Representative of Iran to the UN, Iran has established the necessary laws and mechanisms to provide policy guidance and facilitate coordination among national institutions, and has made significant progress in combating illegal small arms trade and related issues, particularly drug trafficking.

Iravani also stated that Iran has signed bilateral and trilateral agreements with several regional countries to prevent, combat, and eradicate illegal small arms trade.

Iravani further pointed to the problems created by the illegal sanctions imposed on Iran, saying: These sanctions have limited Iran's access to the necessary technical and technological assistance for combating illegal small arms trade.
