Nationwide state of alert ordered in Iraq

Pars Today – Iraq’s Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has ordered an increase in the state of readiness at military bases and barracks across the country.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, Sabah al-Nouman, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of Iraq’s Armed Forces, announced that Ali Falih al-Zaidi, the prime minister and commander-in-chief, had ordered all military bases and barracks to raise their alert and preparedness levels.

Al-Nouman added that the commander-in-chief had also emphasized the implementation of preventive intelligence measures to thwart any potential attacks or infiltration attempts.

The Iraqi Armed Forces spokesperson further announced that al-Zaidi had ordered the acceleration of programs to equip and arm radar systems, early-warning detection systems, and air-defense systems.

These measures come after joint Saudi-American strikes early Wednesday targeted positions belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in several Iraqi areas, including Basra, Wasit, Kirkuk, and Diyala provinces.

The attacks were carried out under the pretext of alleged drone attacks on oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia, a claim that Iraq’s Islamic Resistance groups had previously rejected, denying that any attacks against other countries, including Saudi Arabia, had been launched from Iraqi territory.
