Members of London's Sudanese community demanded an end to the military crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Sudan, during a demonstration in front of Downing Street in London on Saturday.

According to Press TV, the protest was organized by the Alliance of Sudanese Political Forces (ASPF), Sudanese Associations and Trade Unions (SATU) and the Sudanese Communities in the UK. Dozens held up banners and placards against violence in the North African nation, which was suspended from the African Union on Thursday after attacks on protesters by Sudanese security forces which killed dozens earlier in the week.

"I'm here to protest because we want more than a cosmetic change to the leadership of our country. We've chased away the world's most corrupt and reprehensible leaders, but the system that has propped them up is still active. People are being killed, tortured, being raped for no reason," one protester said.

Sudan has been embroiled in a political crisis since the overthrow of former President Omar Al-Bashir, following mass protests against his 30-year rule.
