  • American philosopher: Glory of Imam Hussain’s Arbaeen can defeat Islamophobia

Pars Today- Professor Charles Taliaferro, an American philosopher, referred to Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Shias’ third Imam, as an inspiration for justice-seekers around the world.

Professor Charles Taliaferro, a retired professor of philosophy at St. Olaf College in the United States and a member of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, referring to the uprising of Imam Hussein against oppression and the oppressor, said: The sacrifice of Imam Hussein for millions of people is a model of heroic courage and inspiration for people of different religions.

According to Pars Today, Professor Taliaferro added: Great heroes of the struggle against injustice, such as Christian Nelson Mandela and Hindu Mahatma Gandhi, have been inspired by the amazing courage of Imam Hussein in the Battle of Karbala.

In an interview with Iran’s Mehr News Agency, Professor Taliaferro also referred to the Arbaeen procession and the presence of Christians in this procession, saying: The world's population is much more religious than what secular commentators think.

This member of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, referring to the results of a study by the American Pew Research Center, which states that 80% of the population of 230 countries in the world are attached to religious issues, noted that Imam Hussein is admired by many Muslims, Christians, and Hindus, and many of them are committed to fighting against injustice in the world.
He also expressed hope that getting to know Imam Hussein (PBUH) would lead more people to seek a religious and spiritual life.

Taliaferro also answered the question of how much the Arbaeen procession has been effective in creating cooperation and unity among people in the region and the world to fight against terrorism, saying: The more glorious the Arbaeen event is held, the more it can defeat Islamophobia.

Every year, millions of people from Shia Islam as well as other religions around the world participate in the special ceremony of Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (PBUH), which is known as one of the largest public gatherings in the world.

Usually, about 20 days before the day of Arbaeen, pilgrims from all over the world walk on foot from the surrounding cities of Iraq and also from Iran to Karbala to honor the memory of the martyrs of the Karbala event.
