"Our hands are plunged in blood"; Borrell's confessions, European contradictions in Gaza
-
Josep Borrell, former EU Foreign Policy Chief
Pars Today- Josep Borrell, old-timer Spanish diplomat and the former EU foreign policy chief, revealed unprecedented realities which have been loudly expressed by human rights activists and independent analysts for years.
"Half of the bombs dropped on Gaza today have come from the European soil." This was the explicit confession of the ex-foreign policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell.
According to Pars Today, although this confession has been expressed very late, there is no doubt in it and it is an obvious symbol of moral and political failure of a continent which used to masquerade human rights values. The sound of explosions in Gaza is still echoing in the ears of the world. The world is still hearing the voices of mothers crying for their babies plunged in blood. The statistics are horrible: More than 51,000 were martyred and over 116,000 wounded. More than 17,000 of the martyrs are children and babies. These sound just figures, but the fact is that each number was a life that has ended with the weapons Europe has provided for Israel, which is indeed a gang of terrorists and a garrison of terrorists in West Asia rather than a country. Thus, Europe is directly complicit in the crimes of Israel.
Josep Borrell, after receiving the "Carlos V" European Award at the Yuste Monastery in Spain, said, "We are witness to the largest ethnic cleansing after the WW II whose aim is to create a place of repose and vacation after omission of Palestinians."
While speaking of the two-state solution and the "legitimate right to self-defense", the European Union is a part of the vehicle for massacring the defenseless people of Gaza. Exporting of weapons to Israel, meaningful silence towards the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians and passiveness against flagrant violation of human rights are all in contrast to the principles the EU has loudly been claiming.
Today, Borrel is confessing from a monastery in Spain that "Europe had every instrument of protest and influence, but never applied them."
The blatant contrast becomes more conspicuous when one looks at the European leaders' reaction towards the Ukrainian war. These leaders, on the one hand, rushed to provide billions of dollars of weapons and equipment for Kiev, while on the other hand, didn't stop selling weapons and munitions to the criminal Israel to massacre the innocent in Gaza. Aren't both crises described as human rights violation and countering occupation? So, why does one of the victims deserve to receive tanks and missiles, whereas the other one receives mere silence and hollow promises?
Although the confessions of the former EU High Representative and Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell, sound an individual stance, they lay bare the depth of a systematic catastrophe. In other words, the EU foreign policy has turned into a duplicitous game in which the principles of humanity and morality are determined with geopolitical interests and affiliation to certain allies rather than human rights and rights of civilians and so on.
In Borrell's opinion, the aim of the Israeli war is beyond revenge or security: "Ethnic cleansing to create a place of repose and vacation after omission of Palestinians." Such an explicit confession is beyond the words of a veteran politician. It is an alarm for the collective conscience of Europe. The continent which has been a victim of genocide is now catering for genocidal weapons and equipment.
In a world threatened by "Rioters like Trump", as Borrell put it, the collapse of the Western civilization has begun not from outside but from inside, exactly where human principles are butchered at the altar of vested interests and human rights have turned into an instrument for political games. The human conscience now asks at the court of history, "How long will Europe, as a claimant of human rights, continue partnership in these crimes? Till when should the European bombs murder Palestinian children? Is it not the time to break this silence?"
