Is Japanese suffering from American atomic bombing over?
Pars Today- The US atomic bombardment of Japan has caused widespread toxicity and genetic changes from generation to generation.
The United States of America, with the pretext of ending the Japanese resistance in the war, dropped atomic bombs over the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki towards the end of WWII (August 1945) which resulted in devastation of these two cities and massacre of hundreds of thousands of people. According to Pars Today, in spite of the lapse of 80 years from this unprecedented crime, Japan is still grappling with the consequences of the atomic bombs and the memory of this anti-human act has been carved in the minds of the Japanese.
The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused not only massive human losses but also long-term broad environmental catastrophes. These consequences include radioactive contamination, destruction of ecosystem, climatic changes, and hygienic repercussions for the generations to come.
After several decades it was clear that exposure to serious radioactive radiations would lead to remarkable genetic deformities and DNA changes which will result in the birth of deformed children suffering from a variety of physical and mental deficiencies.
The effects of the US atomic bombardment of Hiroshima and Nagasaki can be enumerated as follows:
- Radioactive contamination: The atomic bombs spread very big amounts of radioactive particles such as uranium-235 and plutonium-239 in the environment. The radioactive fallout caused soil and air contamination in vast areas and made those areas uninhabitable for several decades. The magnitude of radiation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was much higher than normal for many years after the catastrophe.
- Ecosystem destruction: The explosions and intensive heat thereof (4000 degrees centigrade) destroyed the flora and fauna in the environs. Rivers and water resources were contaminated due to the ashes and toxic substances, and the life of the aquatics was also affected which are still mentioned in various studies.
- Impact on climate: The atomic bombs emitted very huge amounts of dust and smoke to the space which caused temporary reduction of temperature (local nuclear winter). Although this effect was limited in comparison with a wide nuclear war, it created specific climate changes in the region.
- Impact on agriculture and food resources: The soil tainted with radioactive substances caused problems for agriculture for several years. Agricultural products and livestock were exposed to contamination and caused wide toxicity for several generations.
- Increase of cancer cases, congenital abnormalities, and diseases related to exposure to atomic radiations among survivors: Even the next generations of survivors have faced with the growing risk of genetic problems. The Japanese government gives a certain amount of money to the survivors of the American atomic bombing per month in order to enable them to confront the physical effects of exposure to nuclear radiations and overcome its psychological impacts.
Dr. Nanao Kamada, Head Director of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Survivors Relief Foundation, says, "We have nearly 300 people here who are all the survivors of the atomic bombs. The main cause of their disease is radioactive radiation and their old age. most of them are suffering from cancer and heart problems. Other problems include psychological ailments such as PTSD. They have memories of the day of explosion which crosses their mind like flashback and disturbs them."
The atomic bombardment of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not only a human catastrophe and an unprecedented crime by the US, but also it brought about countless irreparable damages which have lingered for decades with horrible consequences. But, the US President in those days, Harry Truman, defended his decision of atomic bombing of Japan till the end of his life in 1972 at the age of 88. The former US President, Barack Obama, who had travelled to Japan during his tenure, also refused to apologize for this heinous crime.
