  • How does US defunctionalize global institutions?

Pars Today- The US' treatment of the world organizations during the recent years has deprived them of their functions.

After WWI, institutionalism was taken into consideration within the world system and put on the agenda. The main goal was cooperation within the framework of global institutions in order to prevent wars. The occurrence of WWII caused the failure of the League of Nations. Yet, the world powers, setting up the United Nations Organization (UN) and some global economic institutions, once again tried to exploit these international bodies to create peace and security and prevent war in the world (at least this was what they had claimed). However, the events of the 21st century (especially those after the year 2011) revealed that the global institutions, such as the UN, the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency, have totally lost their functions and turned into the tools in the hand of the big powers, particularly the US, and its rabid dog in the region, the fake Zionist regime.

The first reason for this claim is the instrumental use of the veto "right" (law of jungle) by the UNSC permanent members, especially the US. This has been evidently clear during the past 22 months in which the child-killing Zionist regime has been committing genocide in Gaza because the United States and the Western regimes have time and again resorted to the veto "right" and prevented the issuance of a single resolution in condemnation of the unprecedented crimes committed by the bestial regime in Tel Aviv and stop the war in Gaza. The impunity of the criminal regime against punishment has been the main cause of persistence of genocide in Gaza. The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and some of the human rights officials of the UN have been content with expressing concern and warning over the crimes of Tel Aviv and the humane catastrophe unleashed by the Zionist regime in Gaza. The UN officials and bodies have proved for years that they have no authority when it comes to the interests of the US and its proxy regime in the region, Israel. The maximum thing they do is to express concern and present some statistics about what is going on in West Asia.

The second factor that has defunctionalized the world institutions is the politicized and selective view of the US and Europe to these institutions. The latest example in this regard was the illegal attack on Iran's peaceful nuclear sites by the US and the Zionist regime and also attacking civil centers which resulted in martyrdom of a number of the scientists, commanders and civilians. Although the UNSC held a meeting on the issue, it issued no resolution against the illegal and aggressive move of Washington and Tel Aviv. This move further discredited the UN and defunctionalized it more than ever.

The third aspect of defunctionalization of the world bodies is that they have acted absolutely in the path of the interests and priorities of big powers, particularly the US. The conspicuous example for this was the performance of the IAEA and its notorious director general, Rafael Grossi. According to numerous reports and the evidence shown by Iranian and foreign officials, Grossi used to give information about the Iranian nuclear scientists to Zionists to provide the ground for their assassination by Tel Aviv. Rafael Grossi has totally been under the influence of Zionists, Americans and Europeans as he has set the ground for the US and Israeli attack through his false reports about Iran's nuclear activities. Grossi has indeed discredited and defunctionalized the IAEA.

Taking these issues into consideration, Abas Ali Kadkhodaei, Head of the Research Center of the Guardians Council, reiterated, "Institutionalism in the international arena was based on recognized principles and regulations, including equality of governments, independence and sovereignty of governments, not resorting to force and non-interference in the affairs of countries. But, the dominance of the values and interests of the West, especially those of the US, instead of prevention of resorting to force and non-interference, which enjoyed a set of predetermined principles and regulations, caused to pursue a series of social goals like power and wealth. Therefore, these institutions have been deprived of their main function."
