The effect of beetroot juice on reducing blood pressure in the elderly
The website SciTechDaily reported in an article: According to the findings of a large-scale study, the ability of nitrate-rich beetroot juice to reduce blood pressure in older adults is likely linked to measurable changes in the community of oral bacteria. This effect, which results from the conversion of nitrate to nitric oxide, was only observed in older individuals and offers a natural strategy for improving cardiovascular health. The research, led by scientists at the University of Exeter in the UK, compared the responses of young and older participants to beetroot juice. Previous studies had already proven that diets rich in nitrate can help reduce blood pressure—an effect that plays an important role in lowering the likelihood of developing cardiovascular diseases.
