Pars Today – Five media and cultural cooperation agreements have been signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and several media and cultural institutions of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

According to Pars Today, the agreements were concluded during the visit of a high-ranking Iranian media delegation to Pakistan, led by Ahmad Nowrouzi,Vice President of IRIB World Service along with Abbas Mohammadnezhad, Director General of International Affairs, Morteza Shamsi, Director of Sahar Global Network, and Jaber Ali Mohammadi, Director General of Sistan and Baluchestan Broadcasting. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

Under these agreements, IRIB signed bilateral memoranda of understanding with Pakistan Television (PTV), the private network Sub TV, Cinepax Media Pvt. Ltd., and the regional broadcaster Vsh TV, covering areas of technical, educational, production, and cultural cooperation.

Key areas of collaboration include the exchange and broadcast of television and radio programs, joint media and cultural productions, training and research cooperation, technical knowledge sharing, and participation in cultural festivals and events in both countries. A major highlight of the cooperation is Iran’s technical and educational participation in the establishment of the “Punjab Film City” project in partnership with Cinepax Media, aimed at developing film production infrastructure and strengthening cultural exchanges between Iran and Pakistan.

During the signing ceremony, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting praised the Iranian delegation’s visit, calling the agreements “a milestone in bilateral media and cultural relations.” He emphasized that cooperation between Iranian and Pakistani media can help strengthen Islamic unity, counter Western media distortions, and enhance cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations. The Iranian delegation described the agreements as a practical step toward expanding Iran’s media diplomacy in South Asia and creating a foundation for sustainable cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad.

During a visit to Radio Pakistan (PBC) in Islamabad, both sides discussed expanding technical and content collaboration and explored the possibility of launching joint radio channels and experience-sharing initiatives. They underscored the role of radio in promoting cultural diplomacy and countering soft media warfare.

Exchange of radio programs: A new step in media cooperation between the two countries

Ahmad Nowrouzi in the meeting described the exchange of radio programs between the two national broadcasters as “an effective step toward strengthening cultural and media ties” between Iran and Pakistan. He said Iran is ready to share its documentaries and radio programs with Pakistan’s national broadcaster and collaborate on developing new radio channels and platforms. He also proposed the creation of a joint channel titled “Iran–Pakistan Friendship” to air cultural, religious, and social content from both countries.

Meanwhile, Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, Director General of Radio Pakistan, highlighted the broadcaster’s efforts in countering media propaganda by colonial and hegemonic powers, emphasizing the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding among nations. He noted that Radio Pakistan operates more than 90 active channels covering social, educational, and cultural topics and plans to launch Persian-language news bulletins for Persian-speaking audiences in Pakistan./IRIB News Agency
