China warns US: Sanctions and pressure will not help resolve issues

Pars Today – A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, responding to threatening remarks by the US Treasury Secretary about imposing secondary sanctions on countries that trade or engage with Iran, stressed that sanctions and pressure do not help resolve issues and will only escalate tensions.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a press briefing on Monday that sanctions and pressure would not help resolve issues, but would only exacerbate tensions and serve the interests of none of the parties.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson called on all sides to exercise restraint and remain rational, refrain from actions that could further escalate disputes and conflicts, harm the global economic development process, or cause financial instability, and return to the right track of dialogue, negotiations, and a political settlement as soon as possible.

The Chinese diplomat, noting that Beijing would closely monitor related developments, said China would take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.

The remarks came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent threatened to impose the “toughest sanctions in history” on Iran and called on China to cooperate with Washington.

He added that secondary sanctions would be imposed on countries that trade or engage with Iran.
