End of operations at 15 U.S. military bases in West Asia

Pars Today – The United States, which began the war with the aim of overthrowing and partitioning Iran, now appears set to bid farewell to at least 15 of its military bases in the region.

According to Pars Today, citing Fars News Agency, security analyst Barry McCaffrey of MS NOW wrote on his X account on Sunday: “In my judgement, the US Armed Forces have probably permanently lost access to 15 Persian Gulf bases.”

The retired U.S. Army general and MS NOW security analyst added: “Iran now poised to control access the Persian Gulf States. US will have to negotiate new access in western Saudi Arabia, Israel, southern Europe.”

A few days earlier, The Washington Post, citing informed sources and officials, reported that the Pentagon was seeking to reduce the U.S. military presence in the Persian Gulf after the war and did not intend to restore its bases in the region to their pre-war configuration.

According to the report, the Pentagon’s decision was driven by the heavy damage inflicted on U.S. military equipment and facilities during the war with Iran.
