Pezeshkian’s UNGA speech widely covered by US media

Pars Today- Like media outlets around the world, US media extensively covered Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting various aspects of his address, including Iran’s refusal to surrender.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, The Wall Street Journal published a report on the Iranian president’s speech on the second day of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, writing that Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to negotiate to end the war with the United States but warned that Tehran would never submit to US bullying and would not abandon its nuclear program.

The New York Times also noted that Iran is the first country whose head of state has addressed the UN General Assembly in New York while being engaged in a war with the United States, the host country of the UN headquarters.

The newspaper said that “Pezeshkian used the diplomatic platform of the General Assembly to present Iran’s views,” adding that the Iranian president stressed that his country would not give up its civilian nuclear program but left the door open to diplomacy with the United States.

CNBC also reported that the Iranian president, in a bold speech at the UN, portrayed the United States and Israel as sources of global instability.

The report added that Pezeshkian’s speech at the UN General Assembly in New York amounted to a sharp rebuke of US President Donald Trump, who had said at the UN a day earlier that he was considering whether to “destroy” Iran after nearly seven months of war.

CNBC reported that Pezeshkian, saying that Iran is a victim of US and Israeli aggression, stressed that his country would continue to resist “until its last breath.”

NBC News also reported that the Iranian president adopted a firm tone following Trump’s threats. The network added that Pezeshkian referred to civilian casualties by displaying an image of children who were killed after a US missile struck an elementary school in Minab.

In another part of its report, NBC News highlighted Pezeshkian’s display at the UN General Assembly of a photograph of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The US news website Axios wrote that Pezeshkian used one of the world’s biggest diplomatic platforms to directly challenge Trump on US soil, as the confrontation between Iran and the US-Israeli axis continues.

The US website added that Pezeshkian firmly rejected Trump’s description of Iran as a source of terrorism, stressing that Iranians themselves are “victims of terrorism.”

The Associated Press also ran the headline: “Pezeshkian challenges Trump in forceful speech, says Iran will fight ‘until its last breath.’”

The Washington Post wrote that the Iranian president told the UN that his country “must be strong to be safe from threats.”
