The mottos and stands adopted by Iran’s presidential hopefuls throughout their election campaigns capture the attention of people and contribute to votes cast for them.

Some of the important conditions for running for president in Iran are namely citizenship of Islamic Republic of Iran; belief in the principles of Islamic Republic of Iran and the official religion of the country; good record of conduct; trustworthiness; and piety. Meanwhile, the tenets of Iran’s Constitution have specified the framework of the sacred Islamic system and its fixed policies for all.

The political pundit, Hossein Kashanipour, has pointed out: “Upon staging a revolution, which culminated as the result of selflessness and devotion of thousands of martyrs, the Iranian nation managed to shatter despotism and play a fateful role. The fateful role of the Iranian people manifests itself within elections. The Leader of Islamic Revolution has underlined that we should be grateful for elections. Everyone should be grateful for this blessing, including the eligible voters, the election nominees, and the organizers of elections. Meanwhile, gratitude should not be just expressed in words. Anyone in his position should act appropriately, in order to be able to register a promising future for the country. The election nominees should act according to their pledges, and should seek the good of their country. Those, who want to organize the elections, should also know that they are safeguarding a highly valuable event which is the result of selflessness and sacrifices of thousands of martyrs.”

One of the main topics of importance is that we should safeguard our principles, and the eligible voters and nominees should be committed to the main principles of the Islamic Iran.

The first tenet of the Constitution has specified the fixed principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Furthermore, other tenets of the Constitution have partly elaborated on the political, economic, military, cultural, religious, and social policies of the sacred Islamic system.

In accordance with the 16th Clause of 3rd Tenet of Iran’s Constitution, the foreign policy of Islamic Republic of Iran should be based on the Islamic criteria; fraternal commitment toward all Muslims; and relentless support for the downtrodden in the world.

The second tenet of the Constitution also negates any injustice, and calls for administration of justice; national solidarity; and political, economic, social, and cultural independence.

Moreover, the 152nd Tenet of the Constitution points out: Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy revolves round negation of domination; maintenance of the country’s independence and territorial integrity; support for the rights of Muslims; and absence of any commitment toward the hegemonic powers.

Meanwhile, Iran’s presidential hopefuls are expected to focus on these important tenets of the Constitution. In other words, the presidential hopefuls should draw their policies within the framework of Iran’s
Constitution, and should also consider the national interests, and the interests of the World of Islam, accordingly.

The political pundit, Hossein Kashanipour, notes: “Our enemy intends to somehow paralyze us via the economy. We should prioritize resolution of economic problems and should focus on Resistance Economy. We want to build an economy which has no vulnerability and which establishes the means of welfare for our community. The domineering powers are intent on pushing nations toward fulfillment of these hegemonic powers’ illegitimate demands. Meanwhile, we have stood up against hegemonic powers for nearly forty years after the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, putting emphasis on our values, and maintaining all grounds for progress and development.”

The remarks of the Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in a meeting with the officials of sacred Islamic establishment and ambassadors of Islamic countries about Iran’s 12th presidential elections are rooted in Iran’s Constitution. The Leader of Islamic Revolution, in a part of his keynote speech, pointed out that “the Iranian nation, upon participation in the coming election, will once again disappoint the foes of divine religion of Islam, and Iran.”

The tenets of Iran’s Constitution underscore that Iran is an independent country, which supports the downtrodden people in different parts of the world. In all political, economic, military, social, and cultural domains, Iran acts in accordance with Islamic criteria and its own interests, and will not seek anyone’s permission in implementation of its policies. Iran’s presidential hopefuls are duty-bound to implement the tenets of Constitution and this is what the Iranian nation expects of them. The plans of Iran’s presidential hopefuls are within the framework of these principles.

Anyone who is elected as president, plays a decisive role in fulfillment of the interests of Islamic Republic of Iran, and elaborates on the foreign policy of Islamic Republic of Iran with a revolutionary spirit. Demand for independence and negation of hegemonic powers form the cornerstone of the fixed principles of Islamic Republic of Iran. Thus, the speeches delivered by the presidential hopefuls throughout their election campaigns are within the framework of these principles. Placement of emphasis on demand for justice, and negation of domineering powers, has turned Islamic Iran into an important regional actor and a role model for others.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution has pointed out: “If we lose or forget the righteous path of the Founder of Islamic Republic of Iran, late Imam Khomeini (May his soul rest in peace), the Iranian nation would be slapped on the face.

Everyone should know that the Global Arrogance has focused on Iran, which is a large and wealthy country, located in a sensitive region of the world. The arrogant powers only retreat if the Iranian nation dashes their hopes via further progress and empowerment.”

The president in Iran is the protector of the interests of sacred Islamic system and people in different domains. The stands adopted by the president play a pivotal role in maintenance of interests and fixed policies of Islamic Republic of Iran. The source of plans which the six candidates, running for president, have presented is the Constitution. The level of commitment of the six presidential hopefuls to the fixed principles of the Islamic Revolution and the sacred Islamic system captures the attention of Iranian people, parties, and political and economic establishments.
