Homelessness is a major social concern in the US. In accordance to figures released by End Homelessness Organization on January 2014, there are roughly 580,000 homeless Americans.

Meanwhile, the two US presidential hopefuls have spent $2.1bn for their election campaigns, which is tantamount to the budget earmarked by the US federal government in the year 2016 for construction of 25,500 residential units for homeless Americans.

In accordance to the US administration’s 2016 budget plan, $177 million has been earmarked for provision of residential facilities for homeless Americans.

The cost of the election campaigns of two US presidential hopefuls is equivalent to the budget allocated for provision of residential units for homeless Americans for more than eleven consecutive years.

Moreover, the cost of these election campaigns could be spent by the US federal government for education of homeless American children and youths for a period of 32 years.

Furthermore, the costs of the election campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump till October 19, 2016 equals the budget allocated by the US federal government for accommodation of runaway and homeless American teenagers and youths for a period of 18.5 years.
