Let's Know Islam (208)
Welcome to this week's episode of the series Let's Know Islam. Today, we continue our discussion about the Day of Resurrection. Last week, it was pointed out that human resurrection on the Day of Judgement is physical and spiritual, both.
As a reminder, it was said that in the view of Holy Quran, mankind maintains a physical resurrection on the Day of Judgement. In the Day of Resurrection, upon God's instruction, human particles regather and mankind is revived.
The ayahs of Holy Quran, which are related to physical resurrection of mankind on the Day of Judgement, are the ayahs which respond to those, who deny the Day of Resurrection. Some always asked the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny), how mankind is revived after his bones are decayed.
The 78th and 79th ayahs of Surat Ya Sin in Holy Quran note: "He draws comparisons for us, and forgets his own creation. He says, 'Who shall revive the bones when they have decayed?' Say, 'He will revive them who produced them the first time, and He has knowledge of all creation.'
The denial and doubts of disbelievers was in relation to the revival of decayed bones and decomposed bodies of mankind on the Day of Resurrection. The resolute response of Holy Quran is that God is capable of reviving these decayed bones, which shows that physical aspect of presence of mankind in the Hereafter. In the view of exegetes of Holy Quran, the physical resurrection of mankind on the Day of Judgement is perfectly clear in these ayahs of Holy Quran.
Last week, we presented a number of ayahs of Holy Quran which have pointed out the resurrection of mankind from their graves on the Day of Judgement. Today, we study some of the other ayahs which point out this fact.
The 3rd and 4th ayahs of Surat al-Qiyamah in Holy Quran note: "Does man suppose that We shall not put together his bones? Yes, indeed, We are able to proportion even his fingertips!
The 7th ayah of Surat al-Hajj also refers to revival of mankind on the Day of Judgement, noting: "And the Hour is bound to come, there is no doubt in it, and Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves."
A number of ayahs of Holy Quran also speak of the physical aspect of the Day of Resurrection. In these ayahs, references are made to Heavenly gardens; ample, tasty fruits; trees and creeks; delicious food; and decorated dishes and clothes in the Hereafter.
Undoubtedly, in order to benefit from these Heavenly blessings, mankind should appear with a body which is capable of benefitting from these blessings, on the Day of Judgement.
In a number of ayahs, reference has been made to different human body parts in Hereafter and the remarks of these body limbs such as legs, eyes, ears and skin on the Day of Resurrection.
The 20th and 21st ayahs of Surat Fussilat in Holy Quran note: "When they come to it, their hearing will bear witness against them and their sight and their skins concerning what they used to do. They will say to their skins, 'Why did you bear witness against us?' They will say, 'We were given speech by Allah, who gave speech to all things…"
Meanwhile, a number of ayahs of Holy Quran refer to non-physical blessings, joys, and pains in Hereafter which can be justified only via acceptance of presence of human spirit in Hereafter. For instance, in Holy Quran, God speaks about His content on the Day of Judgement, which can only be perceived by human soul and spirit. For instance, the 72nd ayah of Surat al-Tawbah in Holy Quran notes: "Allah has promised the faithful, men and women, gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever, and good dwellings in the Gardens of Eden. Yet Allah's pleasure is greater than all these; that is the great success."
In this ayah, God's content, which is granted to the faithful, is named greater than physical joys in Hereafter.
