Let's Know Islam (209)
Welcome to this week's episode of the series Let's Know Islam. Today, we discuss the topic of witnesses on the Day of Judgement.
One of the topics which everyone should pay attention to is the presentation of one's record of conduct on the Day of Resurrection. On this Day, human deeds will be studied in the divine court and this is an irrefutable and inevitable fact. God Almighty studies the deeds of individuals on the Day of Judgement.
Basically; Hereafter is superior to the material world. Thus, the terms and words which we converse and use in the material world in order to convey concepts cannot fully depict life in Hereafter. For this reason, mankind is incapable of describing and expressing the glory, grandeur, and the variety of blessings in Hereafter.
One of the topics of importance in relation to the divine court on the Day of Resurrection, is the presence of witnesses in that fateful day. Several ayahs of Holy Quran have mentioned witnesses on the Day of Judgement. God Almighty is witness on the Day of Judgement.
17th ayah of Surat al-Hajj in Holy Quran notes: "…Indeed Allah is witness to all things."
The 61st ayah of Surat Yunus in Holy Quran points out: "Not an atom's weight escapes your Lord in the earth or in the sky."
We should realize that God monitors our deeds, including every step that we take, everything we look at, in addition to our remarks, thoughts, and intentions. He dominates the entire universe and is aware of everything.
Prophets and Imams are witnesses to our deeds on the Day of Judgement. Angels also act as witnesses to our records of conduct on the Day of Resurrection.
Earth is another witness to our deeds on the Day of Judgement.
The 4th ayah of Surat al-Zalzalah in Holy Quran notes: "On that day, the earth will relate its chronicles."
Another witness to our worldly deeds on the Day of Judgement is our body limbs and parts such as our tongues, hands, legs, eyes, ears, and skin.
The 24th ayah of Surat al-Nur in Holy Quran notes: "On the day when witness shall be given against them by their tongues, their hands, and their feet concerning what they used to do."
The 20th and 21st ayahs of Surat al-Fussilat note: "When they come to it, their hearing will bear witness against them and their sight and their skins concerning what they used to do. They will say to their skins, 'Why did you bear witness against us?' They will say, 'We were given speech by Allah, who gave speech to all things.'
Thus, on the Day of Judgement, mankind realizes that he does not control or dominate his body limbs; given that his body limbs and parts bear witness against him. On the Day of Judgement, sinners come to realize the realities of Hereafter, which they used to deny or neglect. However, they no longer have an opportunity to make up for their wrongdoings. Human body and soul are archives of our deeds, behaviors, and remarks throughout our lives. Based on scientific studies, scientists have concluded whatever we eat in our lifetime leave an impact on our body, blood, cells, bones, and veins. Even with the change and replacement of cells, these impacts are conveyed to our future cells.
Similarly, each one of our deeds leaves an impact on our body and spirit. All of our misdeeds such as lies, betrayal, and injustice, and all of our good deeds such as selflessness, forgiveness, and truthfulness influence our body and spirit.
