Welcome to this week's episode of the series Let's Know Islam. Today, we continue to discuss the consideration of individuals' records of conduct by God Almighty, in addition to regrets of individuals on the Day of Judgement.

As a reminder, on the Day of Judgement, God takes into consideration the records of conduct of individuals. He is a highly precise and just judge.

Human beings maintain a number of rights in their lives and social relationships. Naturally; spouses, parents and children, relatives and associates, friends, the wealthy and the poor, and other groups and strata maintain a number of rights and duties toward each other. Compliance with, and fulfillment of these rights is a social, ethical, and legal duty. Violation of these rights is considered a sin and an offense, and one will be questioned about commitment of such violations on the Day of Judgement.

On the Day of Resurrection, God doesn't condone the violation of rights of some individuals by others, unless the related victims withdraw their complaints.

The violated rights of people toward each other in their lives and social relations may be financial rights such as refusal to repay one's debts or infliction of damages to others' belongings and assets; or breached non-financial rights such as persecuting, insulting, gossiping, and/or discrediting others.

Thus, in our personal and social relations, we should be cautious about other people's rights and should regulate our interactions such that no one's rights would not be breached, given that God doesn't condone such sins.

A number of different moods have been named in reference to individuals on the Day of Resurrection. One of these moods, is profound regret of individuals on that day. Thus, the Day of Judgement is also referred to as the Day of Regret. The 39th ayah of Surat Maryam in Holy Quran notes: "Warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be decided, while they are yet heedless and do not have faith."

On the Day of Resurrection, individuals are regretful. The good doers wish they would have carried out further good deeds, while wrongdoers regret their misdeeds. The wrongdoers foresee a life full of hardships and sufferings before them which seems never-ending, while they could have led a prosperous and honorable life with a little patience, tolerance, and effort.

Undoubtedly, disbelievers and the unjust, upon observation of the scene of the Day of Judgement, are intensely disheartened and baffled. Ayahs of Holy Quran depict the regrets of wrongdoers on the Day of Judgement.

The 54th to 56th ayahs of Surat al-Zumar in Holy Quran note: "Turn penitently to Him and submit to Him before the punishment overtakes you… Lest anyone should say, 'Alas for my negligence in the vicinage of Allah!"

The 12th ayah of Surat al-Sajdah in Holy Quran note: "Were you to see when the guilty hang their heads before their Lord confessing, 'Our Lord! We have seen and heard. Send us back so that we may act righteously. Indeed, we are now convinced.'

The 40th ayah of Surat al-Naba in Holy Quran states: - the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say, 'I wish I were dust!'

The 44th ayah of Surat al-Shura in Holy Quran reveals: …You will see the wrongdoers, when they sight the punishment, saying, 'Is there any way for a retreat?'

On the Day of Judgement, sinners and offenders initially deny their regrets, given that revelation of their regrets fuels and stokes their disgrace. However, gradually, their sins are revealed, and witnesses to their sins turn up. At that point in time, everything is disclosed and nothing remains for concealment. At that point in time, sinners and offenders openly express their regrets.

On the Day of Resurrection, sinners regret their misdeeds in the material world. The followers of corrupt and unjust ringleaders; those, who deny the prophet hood of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny); and accumulators of wealth via illegitimate means are among the individuals, who regret their misdeeds on the Day of Resurrection.

The 27th, 28th, and 29th ayahs of Surat al-Furqan in Holy Quran refer to this group of people on the Day of Judgement, noting: "A day when the wrongdoer will bite his hands, saying, 'I wish I had followed the Apostle's way! Woe to me! I wish I had not taken so and so as a friend! Certainly he led me astray from the Reminder after it had come to me…'

Undoubtedly, associates and friends influence individuals' characteristic traits. Mankind learns a lion's share of his thoughts; beliefs; and characteristic features through interactions with others. In other words, friends play an important role in prosperity or woes of mankind.

There are other individuals who become regretful on the Day of Judgement, such as those, who only pay lip-service to justice, but are not committed to justice in practice; or those who murder innocent individuals.
