Let's Know Islam (215)
Welcome to this week's episode of the series Let's Know Islam. Today's topic of discussion is the sinners' plead for assistance on the Day of Judgement.
Upon the arrival of the Day of Judgement and materialization of the divine pledge, good doers will be cheerful, while sinners will be mired in sadness and despair. According to Holy Quran, on that day, mankind escapes even from his very close relatives such as his siblings and parents, while only contemplating about saving himself. On that day, the sinner is prepared to sacrifice everything and everyone in a bid to somehow save himself.
At that point in time, the sinner looks for a way to escape. He anxiously looks around to find a way to rescue himself. At times, he looks to the right and to the left. He realizes that good doers are saved on that Day. However, the sinner and wrongdoer finds himself empty-handed and realizes that he has no means for saving himself. On that day, the sinner faces a deadlock and begs others to help and assist him.
Based on the ayahs of Holy Quran, on the Day of Resurrection, sinners seek the assistance of different individuals and groups, and beg the faithful to help them on several occasions.
The inmates of Fire seek the assistance of those in paradise. The 50th ayah of Surat al-A'raf in Holy Quran notes: "The inmates of the Fire will call out to the inhabitants of paradise, 'Pour on us some water, or something of what Allah has provided you.' They will say, 'Allah has indeed forbidden these two to the faithless!'
After the inhabitants of paradise and inmates of Fire are located in their places; they talk and debate with each other. The inmates of Fire who are in dire conditions, scream, seeking water and assistance from the inhabitants of paradise in order to alleviate their woes and hardships. However, the inhabitants of paradise refuse to help sinners, saying that Allah has indeed forbidden these two to the faithless.
Meanwhile, the fact of the matter is that evildoers and sinners are the ones who have shaped their own dire fate.
The 51st ayah of Surat al-A'raf in Holy Quran notes: "Those who took their religion for diversion and play and whom the life of the world had deceived. So today We will forget them as they forgot the encounter of this day of theirs, and as they used to impugn Our signs."
In fact, they are the ones who took their elevated religious principles and values for diversion and play. They have been deceived and have become conceited by the life of the world, leading to their forgetfulness about the Day of Resurrection.
Meanwhile, upon the negative response of the good doers; wrongdoers are mired in despair. So, these wrongdoers turn to other offenders and sinners for assistance to somehow save themselves.
The 47th and 48th ayahs of Surat Ghafir in Holy Quran note: "When they argue in the Fire, the weak will say to those who were arrogant, 'Indeed we used to follow you; so will you avail us against any portion of the Fire?' Those who were arrogant will say, 'Indeed we are all together in it. Indeed, Allah has judged between His servants.'
No matter how hard sinners try to escape from hardships and woes and to blame others for their sins, they do not get anywhere. This is because anyone is responsible for his good deeds or misdeeds. He cannot continue his wrongdoings under the pretext of rampant corruption. Mankind maintains will and discretion; and can stand up against any corrupt system. He maintains enough strength not to be impacted by his surrounding environment, while he also has the ability to influence his surrounding environment.
Meanwhile, wherever they look, sinners and criminals find all the doors shut. At this point, they ask the keepers of hell for assistance.
The 49th and 50th ayahs of Surat Ghafir in Holy Quran note: Those in the Fire will say to the keepers of hell, 'Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us at least a day's punishment.' They will say, 'Did not your apostles use to bring you manifest proofs?' They will say, 'Yes'. They will say, 'Then supplicate Him yourself.' But the supplications of the faithless only go awry.
In some of the ayahs of Surat al-Mu'minun, the unjust plead for divine assistance in hell.
105th to 107th ayahs of Surat al-Mu'minun in Holy Quran note: 'Was it not that My signs were recited to you but you would deny them?' They will say, 'Our Lord! Our wretchedness overcame us, and we were an astray lot. Our Lord! Bring us out of this! Then, if we revert, we will indeed be wrongdoers.'
The response to the unjust has been stated in the 108th ayah of Surat al-Mu'minun. This ayah points out: He will say, 'Begone in it, and do not speak to Me!
