Pars Today – Iran’s foreign minister has warned that three European countries cannot undermine the credibility of the UN Security Council by misusing a resolution they themselves have failed to honor.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the president of the Security Council, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, and Security Council member states, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi wrote that the three European states have no legal, political, or moral legitimacy to invoke the snapback mechanism under the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015).

He argued that through their actions and statements—such as their political and material support for the recent unlawful military aggression by Israel and the United States—the E3 have violated the fundamental principles of the nuclear deal and have consistently failed to fulfill their obligations. As a result, Araghchi asserted, they have effectively forfeited their status as participants in the JCPOA.

Any attempt to revive the previously annulled Security Council resolutions, he said, would therefore be legally invalid and without merit.
