Pars Today – A Russian cultural and social media activist, who traveled to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage, said on Thursday that the ritual is unique in terms of its grandeur, the number of participants, and their sincerity.

Abbas Jom’eh added: “Tens of thousands of volunteers from across Iraq and other countries, such as Iran, leave their jobs and professions to come to Iraq for the Arbaeen pilgrimage. They provide services to pilgrims, build rest areas, cook meals, and distribute drinks. Perhaps nowhere else in the world will you see such devotion and scale — all for Imam Hussein (AS).”

Referring to an Arabic proverb meaning “there is blessing in movement,” the Russian journalist noted that in Shia culture and belief, movement is particularly valuable. Moving forward symbolizes the struggle against decline and regression.

The cultural and social media activist in Russia further explained that this is why pilgrims follow a centuries-old tradition, walking from Najaf to Karbala; in doing so, Shia Muslims move forward toward the light, leaving darkness behind.
