Pars Today — In a clear and explicit stance, China described the United States as an obvious threat to the international order.

According to Pars Today, China’s official state news agency Xinhua, in a commentary on the U.S. military attack on Venezuela and the abduction of Nicolás Maduro, the country’s legitimate president, wrote that the United States has for years falsely portrayed itself as a guardian of international law, but has now shown that it is itself a violator and a clear threat to the international order—demonstrating that power, not law, now determines the fate of nations.

The U.S. military attack on Venezuela revealed which country truly undermines international law, and action against the president of an independent state made it explicitly clear to the world who the real violator of international law is.

The Chinese media outlet went on to stress that this military aggression rendered decades of U.S. claims that America is the guardian of international law hollow and meaningless. By bypassing the United Nations Security Council, Washington once again acted in direct opposition to the principles of international law.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement strongly condemning the United States’ use of force against Venezuela and the targeting of the country’s president, describing it as a violation of international law and a threat to peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The statement said that Beijing was deeply shocked by the United States’ reckless use of force against a sovereign country and its targeting of the Venezuelan president, and firmly denounced the action.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that China calls on the United States to immediately release Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

China’s view of the United States in recent years has increasingly been shaped around the principle that Washington is regarded as a clear threat to the international order. Chinese officials have repeatedly stressed that U.S. policies—particularly in the security, economic, and technological spheres—not only jeopardize global stability but also hinder the emergence of a fair multipolar system.

From Beijing’s perspective, the United States exploits its military and economic power to interpret international rules in ways that serve its own interests. China believes that through the use of unilateral sanctions, economic pressure, interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and ultimately military intervention and occupation, the United States violates the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, including respect for national sovereignty and non-interference. According to China, this approach has led to widespread distrust among developing countries and weakened international cooperation.

From China’s viewpoint, Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter—grounded in the fundamental principles of international law—explicitly prohibits the use or threat of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. Consequently, action against an independent country and its legitimate president has clearly shown the world who the real violator of international law is.

In recent years, the world has witnessed numerous such examples. From Iraq and Libya to Panama and Grenada, the United States has repeatedly, and on the basis of unfounded justifications, resorted to the use of force or the threat of force against these countries, resulting in nothing but long-term instability.

Venezuela, which has long been subjected to sanctions and political pressure, has now been added to this list, with diplomacy pushed to the sidelines. The fact that this aggression occurred in Latin America—a region with a long history of U.S. intervention—demonstrated that Washington still views the Western Hemisphere as the United States’ exclusive sphere of influence.

In reality, through its repeated actions against the international order, international law, and the UN Charter, the United States has become one of the most serious threats to the very order it claims to defend.

In this context, in the security sphere, China has repeatedly objected to the extensive U.S. military presence in the Asia-Pacific region. From Beijing’s perspective, Washington—by strengthening military alliances such as security pacts with Japan, South Korea, and Australia, and by supporting Taiwan—directly threatens China’s national security. China views these actions as part of a containment policy aimed at curbing Beijing’s growth and global influence.

In conclusion, China’s perspective is based on the view that the United States, through its unilateral and interventionist policies and actions, poses a serious threat to the international order. In response to this approach, Beijing emphasizes multilateral cooperation, respect for state sovereignty, and the creation of a fairer system in international relations. This clash of perspectives reflects the strategic rivalry between the world’s two major powers, a rivalry that will profoundly shape the future of the global order.
