The withdrawal of US military forces from the \"Ain al-Asad\" base in western Iraq begins
Pars Today - US forces have begun withdrawing from the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq's western Anbar province.
Some personnel and equipment have been transported by aircraft. This marks the first such step at this base, which previously had no personnel transfers and only equipment was moved. According to Iraqi security sources, Ain al-Asad is expected to be completely vacated of American military presence by early September 2025, and the base will ultimately close on September 15.
This withdrawal is part of a prior agreement between Baghdad and Washington aimed at ending the mission of American forces, or the so-called U.S.-led international coalition, in Iraq and transforming this partnership into a non-military security cooperation. /ISNA/
