Statement by 14 UN Security Council members calling for an end to the Gaza war
Pars Today – Fourteen members of the United Nations Security Council, with the exception of the United States, issued a statement calling for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The statement, opposed by the U.S. representative, acknowledged the existence of famine and starvation in Gaza, and urged both an immediate and lasting end to the fighting as well as the release of Israeli captives held by Hamas.
The countries further stressed the need to remove all obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid in order to end the famine in Gaza.
A spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres also emphasized on Wednesday that more aid must be allowed into Gaza without obstruction. He added that students in Gaza are being deprived of the fundamental right to education, reiterating the UN’s call for an immediate ceasefire in the Strip.
