US to be held accountable for adventurism in region: Iranian spokesman
The spokesman for Iran’s government warned the US that it will be held accountable for the consequences of adventurism in the region.
According to Tasnim news agency, speaking to reporters during a video press conference on Saturday, Ali Rabi’ee dismissed the American officials’ recent rhetoric of military action, saying, “The one who will benefit from insecurity in the Persian Gulf is the United States of America.”
The spokesman said the recent plunge in the US oil prices has turned fomenting insecurity in the region into a beneficial option for Washington. “As a result, our strategy is de-escalation of tension in the Persian Gulf.
“However, I would make it clear that the responsibility for any adventurism in the region lies with the US, and we won’t remain passive in reaction to such acts of adventurism.”
He expressed Iran’s readiness to review security treaties and approaches to fighting against coronavirus with regional countries during the holy month of Ramadhan to ensure a region free of violence for an effective battle with COVID-19 and protecting the lives of people.
“Nevertheless, we will definitely give the necessary responses to the aggressors,” Rabi’ee underlined.
In remarks earlier on Saturday, President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran is closely monitoring the activities of American forces in the region, but it will never begin any skirmish and tension in the region.
