Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined the significant role Iranian religious scholars play in helping the Islamic Revolution flourish, noting that the US has sought the ulema’s exclusion from the nation’s movement since the victory of the revolution.

According to Tasnim News Agency, speaking in a gathering of students and teachers of Tehran’s religious schools on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that without the presence of religious scholars, neither the Islamic Revolution would have emerged victorious nor the Islamic Republic could survive.

A feat of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini was thwarting the enemy’s plots for blocking the presence of clerics in the Islamic Revolution processes, the Leader said.

Since the very beginning of the revolution, the Americans have sought to exclude the clergy from the Iranian nation’s movement in order to impair people’s presence in the political scenes and cause the Islamic Revolution’s failure, Ayatollah Khamenei warned.

The Leader then described the Islamic Awakening in a number of Arab countries as an earthquake, saying that the popular uprisings were caused by religious demands but the movements did not achieve results due to the inconsistency of religious organizations in those countries.

“In the Islamic Republic, however, the continuity of presence of scholars and clerics and the consequent presence of people in (all) arenas, has allowed for the continuation of the revolution’s movement,” Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out.

Known as the most important milestone in Iran’s recent history, the Islamic Revolution was led to victory by Imam Khomeini (RA) in February 1978.

The revolution toppled the West-backed Pahlavi regime, ending 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

Receiving strong support from the Iranian people and clerics, Imam Khomeini liberated the country from the yoke of the hegemonic powers and established a new political system based upon Islamic values and democracy.
