Leader assigns cleric to Iran’s Guardian Council
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei named Hojjatoleslam Ahmad Hosseini Khorasani as a new member of Iran’s Guardian Council.
According to Tasnim news agency, in a decree on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Hojjatoleslam Hosseini Khorasani as a member of the Council’s Board of Fuqaha (Jurists).
The cleric replaced Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani after the latter’s resignation from his post as a Guardian Council member.
In the decree, Ayatollah Khamenei thanked Ayatollah Amoli Larijani for his services and wished success for Hojjatoleslam Hosseini Khorasani.
The Guardian Council is a constitutionally mandated 12-member Council in Iran that, among other things, is tasked with ensuring the compatibility of the legislation passed by the parliament with the criteria of Islam and the Constitution.
Six of the members – religious scholars - are appointed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the other six – law experts, are named by the Judiciary chief. Those nominated by the Judiciary chief should be endorsed by the Parliament.
