Iran condemns terrorist attack on a mosque in Pakistan's Peshawar

The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson condemned a suicide bombing at a mosque in Pakistan's Peshawar that killed over 30 people on Monday.

According to Tasnim news agency, in a statement released on Monday, Nasser Kan'ani strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Peshawar, expressing his deepest sympathy to the Pakistani government and nation.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran once again condemns all forms of terrorism and extremism and emphasizes the necessity of fighting against all forms of such inhumane activities,” he added.

The spokesman also called for collective cooperation among regional countries in the effective and preemptive fight against the organizers, supporters and financial sponsors of terrorist attacks.

At least 33 people have been killed and about 150 others wounded in the explosion targeting police at a mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast on Monday.

The mosque is inside a highly fortified compound that includes the headquarters of the provincial police force and a counterterrorism department.

Authorities said part of the building collapsed and that many people were feared to be trapped under the rubble.

Peshawar, the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province bordering Afghanistan, has experienced frequent attacks.
