Iran, China weigh plans for enhancing stability in Afghanistan
The special envoys of Iran and China for Afghanistan discussed ways for cooperation between Tehran and Beijing to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
According to Tasnim news agency, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian President's Special Envoy for Afghanistan who also acts as the caretaker ambassador of Iran in Kabul, held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs Yue Xiaoyong in the Afghan capital.
In a post on his Twitter account, Kazemi Qomi said he has held a “cordial and constructive” meeting with the Chinese envoy in order to carry out the decisions made recently by the Iranian and Chinese presidents.
He said negotiations have been held on the promotion of cooperation between Iran and China with the purpose of ensuring sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Last week, Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi paid a landmark visit to China, during which a number of agreements were signed by the two sides.
In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the presidential visit, Iran and China emphasized that the US and NATO are responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan
They also urged the Afghan governing body to form an inclusive government with the meaningful participation of all ethnic and political groups and eliminate discrimination against women, minorities and religions.
