  • Iran's envoy to UN: New US sanctions against Iran are economic warfare

Pars Today - Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, described the new sanctions imposed by the US Treasury Department against Iran as economic warfare.

On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on 50 individuals and entities, accusing them of forming multiple branches of a vast hidden banking network and connecting with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran's armed forces.

According to Pars Today, Iravani described the new US sanctions against Iran as unjust, stating, “They attack, and we defend accordingly”. He added, "What determines the fate of this economic war is the power of will, not the power of imposing sanctions."

The US government has been obstructing the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) since its inception, and former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the international agreement on May 8, 2018, and announced the return of illegal sanctions against Iran.

The Democratic government of Joe Biden, which claimed to have a diplomatic approach towards Iran and the return to the JCPOA, has not only failed to do so but has also continued to impose sanctions under various pretexts, including Iran's defense programs, such as ballistic missiles, drones, nuclear, and human rights, in line with failed policies.
