Smooth transfer of power in the Islamic Republic of Iran: How does it work?
Pars Today - The handover of the executive power to the new president is one of the most prominent signs of the smooth transfer of power in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In the Islamic Republic of Iran, from the first day after the presidential election results are announced, the government is obligated to cooperate with the elected president to pave the way for the power transfer process.
According to Pars Today, the endorsement ceremony for president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian, will be held on Sunday, July 28, in the presence of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khamenei.
Based on the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the power transfer process to the new government, after the election results are confirmed by the Guardian Council, the president's credentials are issued by the members of the Guardian Council, and then the members of the Council sign the credentials and send them to the Office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
According to article 9 of the Constitution, the endorsement of the presidential decree is among the authorities of the Leader, which takes place before the oath-taking ceremony and after the president is elected by the people.
The endorsement of the presidential decree also has a supervisory role during the presidency, and if the president deviates from the established principles, it will deprive him of legitimacy and credibility.
The next step after endorsement is the oath-taking ceremony where the president must attend the session of the parliament (Majlis) and take the oath of office in accordance with article 121 of the Constitution, in the presence of the members of the Guardian Council, the Judiciary Chief, and other senior officials.
The elected president, according to article 121 of the Constitution, takes an oath to utilize all his talents and qualifications to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him, and at the end, signs the oath document.
In addition to the president and MPs, a number of domestic and foreign dignitaries will also attend the ceremony.
After the oath-taking ceremony, the president has two weeks to introduce his cabinet members to the parliament , which will be evaluated by the specialized commissions for one week, and finally, a confidence vote session will be held for the cabinet.
