Pars Today - Iran's Foreign Minister emphasized the legal and ethical incompetence of three European countries to resort to the snapback mechanism and warned of the consequences of such an action.
The foreign ministers of Britain, France, and Germany, along with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, held a telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister. According to Pars Today, citing the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), during this telephone conversation, the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the so-called snapback mechanism and the responsibility of the three European countries and the European Union in this regard were explained. Iran's Foreign Minister, emphasizing the legal and ethical incompetence of these countries to resort to the mentioned mechanism, warned about the consequences of such an action.
Araghchi emphasized: "The Islamic Republic of Iran, while acting powerfully in self-defense, has never abandoned the path of diplomacy and is prepared for any diplomatic solution that guarantees the rights and interests of the Iranian people."
In response to the repetition of the European parties' idea to extend Resolution 2231 to provide more time for diplomacy, Iran's Foreign Minister stated: "This is a decision that the United Nations Security Council must fundamentally make; and while the Islamic Republic of Iran has its own positions and principled views on this matter, it is not involved in this process."
Araghchi said: "Meanwhile, Iran will consult and exchange views with its friends on the Security Council regarding the effects of such an action and the path ahead."
The three European countries and the EU High Representative in this telephone conversation once again emphasized the readiness of the European countries to find a diplomatic solution.
In the end, it was decided that Iran's talks with the three European countries and the European Union would be followed up next Tuesday at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
