Pars Today – Amid tensions with Venezuela, satellite images show that the United States is upgrading an abandoned base in Puerto Rico.

Construction activities by the United States at the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Base in Puerto Rico, which had been closed for over 20 years, began on September 17. According to Pars Today, citing Reuters, satellite images show that clearing and reconstruction work is underway on the access routes leading to the base’s airstrip.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is also expanding civilian airport infrastructure in Puerto Rico and on the island of St. Croix, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. These areas are approximately 800 kilometers from Venezuela.

In this context, the American newspaper Miami Herald, citing informed sources, reported that the United States has decided to target positions inside Venezuelan territory. The necessary planning for these attacks has been completed, and they could begin within a few days—or even a few hours.

Tensions between Washington and Caracas are increasingly escalating due to the deployment of U.S. forces in the Caribbean. According to Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela, his American counterpart Donald Trump, under the pretext of a “war on drugs,” has exposed the South American country to the “greatest continental threat” in the past century and recently hinted at the possibility of a ground invasion of Venezuela.
