Pars Today – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included the names of two prominent Iranian figures in its global commemorations list for 2026–2027.

At its general assembly in Samarkand, UNESCO included two prominent Iranian figures, Bayazid Bastami and Allameh Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Tabatabaei, in its global commemorations list for 2026–2027. Experts say this move affirms the role of Iranian-Islamic civilization in promoting dialogue, rationality, and global spirituality.

By approving the commemoration of the 1,105th anniversary of the death of Bayazid Bastami, the renowned Iranian mystic, with the support of Armenia, Tajikistan, and Turkey, as well as the 100th anniversary of the scholarly life of Allameh Tabatabaei, supported by Azerbaijan, Iraq, and Pakistan, UNESCO has underscored the global stature of Iranian thought.

Bayazid Bastami, a symbol of love, tolerance, and lifelong learning, and Allameh Tabatabaei, a philosopher and exegete bridging Islamic and Western philosophy, are both figures whose thought has contributed to human cultural convergence.

Iran also played an active role in registering the commemorations of Rabia Balkhi, Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr, and Baki, a Turkish poet.
