Pars Today – A spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the move by the three European countries to reinstate rescinded resolutions against Iran follows the instructions of the party that has violated the JCPOA.

The three European countries that are parties to the JCPOA—the United Kingdom, France, and Germany (the European troika)—officially submitted a notice on Thursday to the UN Security Council activating the snapback mechanism to reinstate sanctions against Iran.

These European countries, which have so far failed to fulfill their JCPOA commitments, stated that they are ready to negotiate with the Islamic Republic of Iran over the nuclear deal within the next 30 days, a process that could halt the return of sanctions.

According to Pars Today, quoting IRNA, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, questioned the independence and “credibility” of the three European countries as negotiating parties in a message posted on X on Friday, writing:

The move by these three European countries to reinstate previously rescinded UN Security Council resolutions against Iran reflects the concept of a “credible negotiating partner” in an international order based on rules, under which might creates right and the “major violator” dictates the rules of the game.

He added that the decision by the three European countries to initiate the process of reinstating rescinded UN Security Council resolutions against Iran is neither legally required nor based on a logical assessment. Rather, as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted in a press statement on August 28, it is based on directives from the U.S. President under Presidential Memorandum No. 2 dated February 4, 2025. The U.S., which is not a JCPOA party, has been the largest violator and disruptor of the agreement, having unilaterally withdrawn from it in 2018, triggering a chain of adverse events up to the present.

In his message, Baghaei attached the following image from a recent meeting of European leaders with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House—a photo that, according to many political analysts, reflects Trump’s humiliating behavior toward them.
