Pars Today- Twenty-six US states, including California and New York, have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump over the reduction of “fuel economy standards.”
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, the US Department of Transportation’s rollback of fuel economy standards to an average of 34.9 miles (56 kilometers) per gallon (3.78 liters) by 2031 has once again prompted governors from various US states to take the Trump administration to court and pursue legal action against the president.
The fuel economy standards had previously been set at 50.4 miles (81 kilometers) per gallon under the administration of Joe Biden.
Fuel economy standards determine the minimum number of miles a vehicle must travel on one gallon of gasoline. The higher the figure, the more fuel-efficient the vehicle must be. Therefore, lowering the fuel economy standard means the government allows automakers to produce less fuel-efficient vehicles in order to bring down vehicle prices. In return, however, people burn more gasoline and pay more for fuel.
