Pars Today – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the illegal sanctions against the Iranian people and the unlawful restrictions imposed on their representatives at the United Nations as violations of fundamental human rights and diplomatic norms.

According to Pars Today, following the continuation of what it called unlawful U.S. actions aimed at pressuring the Islamic Republic of Iran’s mission in New York, Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that such behavior reflects an abuse of the United States’ role as host of the United Nations, using it as a tool of bullying foreign policy to intimidate member states by harassing their representatives.

The Foreign Ministry added:“Military aggression against Iran and complicity with a genocidal regime in the killing of Iranian citizens, the imposition of illegal sanctions, and the abuse of the privilege of hosting the United Nations all stem from the same mindset: the blatant disregard of the U.S. regime for moral and humanitarian principles, international law, and the UN Charter. Attempts by the U.S. State Department to whitewash these violations under the hypocritical pretext of ‘concern for the Iranian people’ are deceptive and contemptible.”

The ministry emphasized that illegal sanctions against the Iranian people and unlawful restrictions on their representatives at the United Nations directly violate fundamental human rights and diplomatic norms. Such conduct, it said, demonstrates the misuse of the UN host country position as an instrument of coercive foreign policy aimed at intimidating member states through the harassment of their representatives.

“Compliance with the obligations of hosting the United Nations is not a favor,” the statement concluded, “but a legal and binding duty under the 1946 Headquarters Agreement.”
