Pars Today – Iran’s ambassador and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations has described Canada’s anti-Iran resolution as political and unfounded.

According to Pars Today, Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s ambassador and deputy representative to the UN, said during the adoption of Canada’s draft anti-Iran resolution in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly: “Once again, an unnecessary and baseless draft resolution has been submitted by Canada for action in this committee. The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly opposes this draft, which is entirely motivated by political, selective, and destructive purposes.”

Darzi added: “We reject both the content of this draft and the intentions behind it. This draft, which has neither been negotiated through any process nor agreed upon with any party and is imposed annually by the same particular country, serves only that country’s political objectives, not human rights aspirations.”

The deputy permanent representative emphasized: “Only cooperative mechanisms, rather than coercive measures, can produce constructive and lasting results. This draft not only fails to promote any constructive engagement but perpetuates the confrontational approach whose ineffectiveness has been repeatedly proven.”

Darzi also noted that the draft resolution disregards condemning the blatant violations of international law by Israel and the United States during their twelve-day military aggression against Iran from June 13 to 25, 2025. The draft ignores the long-term and widespread human rights consequences of this illegal military attack, including the deaths of at least 1,100 people, most of them women and children, as well as the killings of Iranian scientists and intellectuals, and injuries to around 6,000 people, some of whom suffered permanent disabilities.

He added: “It is astonishing that the drafters of this resolution claim concern for ‘Iranian human rights’ while paying no attention to the ‘lives of Iranians.’”

Darzi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to dialogue and constructive engagement with UN human rights mechanisms that operate fairly, transparently, without discrimination, and in accordance with the fundamental principles of justice, impartiality, and independence.

Canada’s annual anti-Iran human rights resolution was adopted on Thursday evening in the UN General Assembly, with supporters once again outnumbered by opposing and abstaining votes.
