Pars Today – In response to the illegal decision of the Canadian government, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Canadian Navy is subject to Iran’s Law on Reciprocal Action and, accordingly, within the framework of this law, is recognized as a terrorist organization.

According to Pars Today, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement, referring to the Canadian government’s decision on June 19, 2024, to label part of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, that since the Canadian government, in violation of the fundamental principles of international law, has placed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—which is one of the official pillars of Iran’s armed forces—on its list of terrorist organizations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken action based on the principle of reciprocity.

The statement said that Tehran’s action is based on Article 7 of the 2019 law titled “Reciprocal Action Against the Designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Terrorist Organization by the United States.” This law stipulates that all countries which, in any way, follow or support the U.S. decision in this regard will be subject to reciprocal measures by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Accordingly, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Canadian Navy falls under the provisions of this law and, within the framework of reciprocal action, is recognized as a terrorist organization.

The Canadian government severed diplomatic relations with Tehran in 2012, and last year, continuing its anti-Iran policies, placed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on its list of terrorist organizations—an action that was met with official condemnation by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
