Pars Today – Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations criticized the UN Security Council's meeting on the situation in West Asia, convened at Bahrain's request, and urged the Council to refrain from actions that could undermine diplomacy or further escalate tensions.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, Amir Saeid Iravani told the Security Council on Thursday that the priority should be the full implementation of the existing understanding between Iran and the United States and the continuation of negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.
He said: "The priority should be the full implementation of the understanding and the continuation of negotiations to achieve a comprehensive agreement. The Security Council should support this process, encourage full compliance with the understanding, and refrain from provocative actions that could undermine diplomacy or further escalate tensions."
He added that he "categorically rejects the baseless allegations made by the United States." Iravani said the U.S. representative had once again resorted to "falsehoods and misinformation" about Iran in a desperate attempt to justify Washington's unlawful acts of aggression.
"The facts are clear," he said. "In the midst of diplomatic negotiations, the United States, together with the Israeli regime, betrayed diplomacy twice and launched two wars of aggression against Iran. These actions constitute a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law and pose a serious threat to international peace and security."
Iravani also rejected the baseless allegations made by several Western members of the Security Council and by Bahrain's representative.
"Instead of addressing the root causes of the current crisis, they have ignored the unlawful aggression against Iran, remained silent in the face of these serious violations, and sought to shift the blame onto the victim. Their double standards and hypocritical conduct have stripped them of any credibility to lecture others," he said.
