Funeral procession for Iran’s martyred Leader begins in Mashhad
Pars Today – The funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution began in Mashhad, starting from the streets near the city’s passenger terminal and the beginning of Imam Reza Street.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the official farewell and funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader and his family members began on Friday, July 3, with political officials from more than 45 countries, as well as religious scholars, faith leaders, and academics from over 90 countries, paying their respects.
On Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, Tehran’s Mosalla hosted public farewell ceremonies attended by mourners and supporters of the Leader from across Iran.
On Monday, July 6, the body of the martyred Leader and his family members was carried through Tehran in a funeral procession attended by millions of mourners.
On Tuesday, July 7, funeral prayers and a procession were held at Jamkaran Mosque in the city of Qom, with large numbers of participants attending the ceremony.
On Wednesday, July 8, Iraqis in the cities of Najaf and Karbala held funeral ceremonies that was described as unprecedented. According to Iraqi officials cited in the report, nearly four million people attended the procession for Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, with numerous Iraqi religious and political figures also taking part.
The final funeral ceremony and burial are scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 9, corresponding to the 24th of Muharram and the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sajjad (pbuh), in Mashhad, where the body of the martyred Leader will be laid to rest at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (pbuh).
