Iran and Turkey discuss security along shared border

Pars Today – Turkey and Iran have held talks on strengthening security along their shared border and combating smuggling and illegal crossings.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Iranian and Turkish delegations met in Ağrı Province in eastern Turkey to discuss border security and cooperation between the two countries in this area.

The Turkish delegation was headed by Ağrı Governor Önder Bozkurt, while the Iranian delegation was led by Colonel Mehdi Habibzadeh, commander of the Maku Border Guard Region.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance border security, prevent the illegal crossing of migrants, combat drug trafficking, and increase the capacity of customs procedures.

They also exchanged views on ways to expand cooperation and strengthen border security between Turkey and Iran.

The land border between Turkey and Iran stretches for approximately 560 kilometers and is considered one of the region’s busiest borders in terms of both security and trade.

Several major border crossings connect the two countries, the most important of which is the Gürbulak–Bazargan crossing, linking Ağrı Province in Turkey with the Maku region of Iran.
