Pars Today — Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the latest U.S. economic sanctions against Iran, describing the move as an instance of “economic terrorism” and a “crime against humanity.”
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, the statement issued by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, August 20, reads as follows:
“Coinciding with the anniversary of the disgraceful August 19, 1953 coup, the U.S. ruling establishment claimed to have imposed sweeping economic and trade sanctions against the Iranian people. This action is not only another indication of the continuation of 73 years of hostility and animosity by U.S. policymakers toward the Iranian people, but also demonstrates the anti-human, lawless, and hegemonic nature of the U.S. ruling establishment.
“Undoubtedly, U.S. economic sanctions against Iran, which target the fundamental human rights of every Iranian citizen, constitute ‘economic terrorism’ and a ‘crime against humanity.’ Those who ordered and carried out these sanctions deserve to be tried and punished for committing such heinous crimes.”
These sanctions, imposed in the wake of the U.S.-Israeli imposed wars against Iran over the past year and a half and the failure to achieve their alleged sinister objectives of forcing the Iranian people to surrender to their illegal and inhumane demands, will merely add to the record of crimes committed by the United States against Iran. However, they will undoubtedly have the slightest effect on the Iranian people’s determination to safeguard Iran’s independence, dignity, and national sovereignty.
Economic sanctions and pressure are the other side of the coin of military war and aggression, and America’s pathological addiction to both not only poses a tangible threat to global peace and security, but has also plunged human civilization into an unprecedented moral decline. Accordingly, any government that believes in the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, including respect for national sovereignty, cannot remain indifferent to the United States’ continued violations of international law and its blatant hostility toward fundamental international norms.
The United States’ grandiose announcement of new sanctions, while amounting to an explicit admission of crimes against humanity, represents a continuation of a policy that has already been tested and failed. Repeating this failed approach will undoubtedly produce nothing but a repetition of past failures and further disgrace for those who designed and implemented the policy. The U.S. government and the architects and executors of this policy will, of course, bear responsibility for its consequences and repercussions.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry, while strongly condemning the U.S. move to intensify its illegal and inhumane sanctions against the Iranian people, stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains steadfast and determined in defending its national security and interests and confronting U.S. military, economic, political, and psychological pressure.
Relying on its unparalleled national capabilities and drawing on the experience of seven decades of comprehensive resistance against U.S. policies of pressure, interference, military aggression, and state terrorism against Iran, the Islamic Republic of Iran will employ all available tools and capacities to counter the hostile U.S.-Israeli campaign and safeguard Iran’s national interests.
