Pars Today – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has criticized Europe’s support for the US economic war against Iran, saying that Europe can no longer claim “strategic autonomy” while effectively reducing itself to an executor of Washington’s orders.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Baghaei reacted on Monday night to an EU statement supporting the US economic war against Iran. He wrote that In 'Discours de la servitude volontaire', Étienne de La Boétie identifies a fundamental truth about the enablers of tyranny: domination is not sustained by force alone; it often endures through the acquiescence of those who are capable of acting independently.
Baghaei stressed: “Europe can no longer speak of “strategic autonomy” while merely executing Washington’s orders.”
He added: “Strategic autonomy is not secured by grandiose declarations. It is realized through the capacity to decide independently and responsibly - even if those decisions diverge from the position of a greater power.”
Baghaei concluded: “Europe must choose: to behave like an independent actor, or to grow so accustomed to echoing another’s policies that it mistakes that echo for autonomy.”
