West’s support for terrorist groups dangerous game: Boroujerdi
A senior Iranian lawmaker says terrorism poses a major threat to all regional and extra-regional countries, stressing that the West’s support for terrorist groups is a dangerous game which will be harmful to the international community.
“The West’s policy of strengthening terrorist groups in order to achieve [its own] political goals in the region is a dangerous game, which will be detrimental to the international community,” chairman of the Iranian Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with a senior member of Belgium’s Parliamentary Assembly Dirk Van der Maelen in Tehran on Monday.
“Terrorism is a major threat to the security and stability of all countries, including European states,” he added.
The US is providing terrorists operating in Syria and Iraq with vast intelligence and arms, he said, adding that the Syria crisis must be settled through political approaches and national dialogue.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized that the crisis in Syria must be solved through negotiations and dialogue,” Boroujerdi emphasized.
The Iranian lawmaker further referred to deep-rooted and close relations between Iran and Europe and called for more steps to improve cooperation in different fields.
“Tehran supports the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in different sectors, particularly in industry, joint ventures and trade,” Boroujerdi said.
The Belgian parliamentarian, for his part, said his country is gravely concerned about the spread of Takfiri terrorism.
He added that the inclination of some European youths toward the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group has created deep concerns throughout Europe.
Van Der Maelen also described Iran as an important and influential country in the region and called for the expansion of mutual relations.
