  • Polls opened for run-off parliamentary election in Iran

Pars Today - Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cast his ballot for the second round of the 12th term of Iran’s parliamentary election in the capital Tehran in the first minutes of voting. This round of election was held electronically.

The ceremony was attended by dozens of Iranian and foreign journalists and was broadcast live on local and foreign media outlets.

After casting his vote, the Leader called the elections a sign of people's presence, will, and decision-making, saying:

"It is the national duty of every person, who loves the country's progress and wants to bring it closer to its great goals, to participate in the elections."

Imam Khamenei also emphasized: “The more votes, the stronger the parliament will be, and the stronger the parliament, the more opportunities there will be for work in the country."

The second round of the 12th term of Iran’s parliamentary election started at 8 am today (May 10) in 22 constituencies across 15 provinces to determine 45 representatives.

In this election, 90 candidates are competing for the remaining 45 seats in the Iranian parliament.

The parliament of Iran has 290 seats, some of which are allocated to religious minorities. According to Article 64 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Zoroastrians, Jews, Assyrian and Chaldean Christians, as well as Armenian Christians from the north and south, have representatives in the parliament.
