  • Sturgeon sets out independent Scotland's foreign policy

The leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP), Nicola Sturgeon, told a pro-independence rally yesterday that “Scotland’s future” must be placed in “Scotland’s hands”.

The pro-independence rally, which was organised by The National (the first daily newspaper in Scotland to support Scottish independence), attracted thousands of marchers in Glasgow’s George Square.

Speaking in her first independence rally since 2014, Sturgeon, who is also Scotland’s First Minister, tried to whip up support for the forthcoming general election on December 12.

“A vote for the SNP is a vote to escape Brexit, and to put Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands – not Boris Johnson’s”, Sturgeon proclaimed.

In the rally Sturgeon linked the results of the forthcoming general election to the SNP’s quest to hold an independence referendum by the second half of 2020.

“It is time for Scotland to be an independent country”, Sturgeon announced..

Sturgeon also set out the basic premises of independent Scotland’s foreign policy.

“An independent country that will be the best of friends and family with our neighbours across the British Isles, across Europe and across the world”, Sturgeon explained.

Sturgeon ended her speech on a high note, by telling the crowds that: “The future of our country is on the line ... And there is no doubt whatsoever that Scotland stands at a crossroads moment”.
